You will have significant experiences. I hope that you will write them down and keep record of them, that you will read them from time to time and refresh your memory of those meaningful and significant things. Some may be funny. some may be significant only to you. some of them may be sacred and quietly beautiful. Some may build one upon another until they represent a lifetime of special experience. - President Hinckley

Easter Sunday....hmmm

I love Easter and every year I have my kids watch the Lamb of God and we talk about what the holiday is really about.  On Saturday we did the non religious hunts (previously posted) one with the city and one that Travis and the ward mission leaders from the stake were in charge of...it was a lot of fun.

We had 2 speakers on Easter and 3 musical numbers (the primary - they did a great job signing Beautiful Savior, A Viola/Piano solo that I played in, and the ward choir).  Luckily the music was good.  The speakers however (names will not be mentioned) didn't say ONE thing about the Savior.  The first one talked about the different things of Easter - how Easter Baskets are like a bird's nest and that's why we put eggs in them, how butterflies are beautiful and lambs are all parts of spring and Easter.  The second speaker wasn't anything better - there was the start of what I thought was a poem similar to "footprints in the sand" and then all at once he said "and there he dropped me on my butt"...yes, butt - several times he mentioned buttprints in the sand....seriously?  and then he quoted a song from veggie tales that meant a lot to him.  I was so uncomfortable the entire meeting....it was hard to sit and listen when there wasn't any metnion of the atonement or the Savior.

Call me crazy, but I was disappointed.

Good thing is we had Trish and Matthew and mom and dad over for dinner and that was a lot of fun and family!

Lunch at Costco

We are on a "spending freeze" but during spring break I took the kids shopping and we got to eat at Costco....good stuff, really good stuff!

The Stake Easter Activity! Whew!

Travis and the ward mission leaders from the stake were in charge of a stake/community Easter egg hunt and carnival.  We spent most of spring break snapping together plastic easter eggs and getting games ready for the day.  Total there were 5,000 plastic eggs snapped together and after the egg hunt on the day of the carnival all of the eggs were returned and "bunny bags" of candy were handed out to each child - so every one got the same amount of candy!  There were lots of people that showed and it was a super fun activity well planned and well executed.

Good Mom? Spring Break...

This week is spring break.  My parents have been taking the grandkids one at a time and doing fun crafty things with them.  Gwendalin had a blast making a fun cocunut colored cake and sleeping over last night.  She also made little noodle angels earlier in the week with my mom and Jocilyn and McKenna.  Hunter was able to go swimming and finish his Aqua Knot for his Webloes with mom and dad as well. Dad took the little boys on a nature walk (1.5 miles) down by the river on one day and then the next day took everyone (except for Maesyn) on the same walk and roasted hotdogs and marshmallows.  They loved it and came home smelling of fun and smoke! I am so glad they can make memories with grandparents!  What a blessing it is that my kids have 2 sets of strong God loving grandparents to look up to.

Earlier in the week I took the boys shopping and got them some appropriate clothes for spring/summer weather.  I got Gwendalin a new Easter dress and Hunter also got a new suit for church.  And yesterday we went shopping for random things and stopped at Costco for lunch.

Yesterday I went out with the boys to help them sell bread things for a wrestling fundraiser....our goal is 30 so they each have 10- yesterday we got 16!  It was such a nice day and a fun walk with them.

Today I am feeling like a failure.  They all want to go swimming - I see on facebook that lots of moms/familes took trips for spring break, or have done something fun every day...I haven't.  I was just glad to sleep in past 6 and not have the routine of school.  They keep begging to swim and I just don't have the energy...am I failing them?  are they only going to have memories of me telling them to clean?   I'm just feeling lousy.

It may have something to do with my head pounding or that I couldn't walk due to my back acting up on Wednesday - I feel like I'm falling apart. Good news is, the cold I've had for the last 2 weeks is finally winding down.  And the UTI that I had seems to be gone....no more urinating blood - thanks to 2 perscriptions later.

Chess Tournament!

Galileo (the kid's school) has an annual chess tournament before the end of the chess season.  My three kids all participated in it and Hunter took 1st and Gwennie and Tyler each took 3rd in their grades...I love that they are well rounded little people!  Tyler cracks me up because he calls it "chest" - but he does it any way.

Tyler wanted nothing to do with dressing up for spirit week, but Gwennie and Hunter did...
