You will have significant experiences. I hope that you will write them down and keep record of them, that you will read them from time to time and refresh your memory of those meaningful and significant things. Some may be funny. some may be significant only to you. some of them may be sacred and quietly beautiful. Some may build one upon another until they represent a lifetime of special experience. - President Hinckley

Our first broken bone...

Thursday night at wrestling, Hunter was paired up and doing his practice when he was lifted (that is the move they were practicing) and when he fell from being lifted he tried to catch himself in a way that he shouldn't have and he fractured his elbow.

I was reading a book at the table and Travis was helping another pair practice....all sudden I heard him (Hunter) screaming - but it didn't seem out of the ordinary....until he started screaming LOUD ...and then I heard "DAD HELP ME!" I ran over and Travis was above him as well as our neighbor Matt Haney (he is an EMT)..   Matt started looking and poking around Hunter's arm and realized it was his elbow that wasn't right.  His body from his hips down just began to shake.  I knew he was in shock.

We took him to the Urgent care and they ran xrays.  Because of his growth plates, we couldn't see the the actual fracture but there was what they call a "sail sign" on the xray that indicated there was a fracture.  Conclusion:  They treated it as it was broken, casted in a temporary cast and then we have to follow up with an orthopedic doctor in 7-10 days so we can re xray and see where the fracture manifests.  So, now we wait.

Hunter is miserable...hates being in a cast and is super itchy.  But such is life.  The kicker was that we just added the kids to our insurance and they didn't have coverage until February 1st....so, we payed 100% out of pocket for his treatment....:)  At least we were able to do so.

Lucky for us , we were in good enough spirits to get in a quick game of Uno when we got home before we went to bed.

In drawing a spiritual conclusion from this experience....I would say that no parent wants their child to be hurt, but it is a part of life and we as parents do our best to ease it as much as we can....Heavenly Father is the same, He won't leave us laying on the mat when we call out "dad, help me!"  He will give us glimpses of hope, His spirit to guide us through our darkest times, and His constant companionship if we decide to seek it out.
